Yvaral | Portraits
9 May - 7 Jul 2007

First solo exhibition in London, since 1970, of works by the French Op artist Yvaral (1934 - 2002), focusing on his computer aided portrait series, in partiicular his paintings of Marilyn Monroe, created between 1989 and 1995.

By using the image of Marilyn Monroe, Yvaral is of course referencing Andy Warhol’s famous silkscreen paintings produced immediately after her death in 1962. However, Yvaral did not intend to pay homage to Marilyn, but always maintained that he chose her and other models for their presence in the collective memory which would facilitate the access of the spectator to the creative process.
