Mel Ramos is one of the central figures of the American Pop art movement, a movement famous for its appropriation of imagery garnered from popular culture and the mass media.

A contemporary, but working independently of Warhol and Lichtenstein, Ramos initially explored cartoon images as subject matter for his painting, as in his comic book series of 1961-64 of costumed heroes and heroines. He then went on to explore the idealisation of the female nude within advertising and pin-up magazines like Playboy and Penthouse

We are currently holding an important show of the artist focusing on his early paintings of the 1960s.
