Tamara De Lempicka

 
Biography

1898   Born Tamara Gurwick-Gorksa in Warsaw, Poland, under Russian sovereignty.
1914   War is declared while she is living in St. Petersburg with her aunt.
Enrolls at the Academy of Art in St. Petersburg, Russia.
1916   Marries a wealthy lawyer, Tadeusz Lempicka.
Tamara and her family are forced form Russia by the Bolshevik revolution and flee to Copenhagen, Denmark.
1919   Tamara and her family move to Paris where she takes up painting lessons from Andre Lhote and Maurice Denis.
1928   Tamara and Tadeusz divorce.
1933   De Lempicka marries Baron Raoul Kuffner, who she met in 1927 when he commissioned her to paint a portrait of his mistress.
1942   Moves to New York which launches her career in America.
1950’s   Extensive travel throughout Europe.
1961   Her husband dies of a heart attack, she is deeply affected. She moves to Houston to be near her daughter, Kizette.
1978   Retires to Cuernavaca in Mexico.
1980   Dies at her house in Cuernavaca.
